Lara L’vov-Basirov

(Maternity Leave) Head of Sale & Specialist | Old Master, British & European Pictures

Lara joined the Old Master, British & European Pictures department at Roseberys in March 2021. She works on the tri-annual auctions in this category, sourcing, researching, cataloguing, and selling the works. She joined Roseberys from Christie’s where she worked for three years in the Topographical Pictures, China Trade Paintings, and Australian Art department. Of particular note during her time at Christie’s was the valuing and selling of the highly important topographical and China Trade material from the collection of the late Richard Kelton across two auctions in 2019. Prior to Christie’s, she spent three years in the Old Master Paintings department at Simon Dickinson Ltd.

Lara studied History of Art at St Andrews University (BA & MA Hons) and afterwards at the Courtauld Institute of Art in 15th and early 16th-Century Netherlandish and Italian Painting (MA Hons, Distinction). She also studied at the British Institute in Florence and on the ‘Art History Abroad’ course in Italy. She has previously interned at the V&A Museum, the De László Foundation, and Westminster School’s Art History department.

Lara specialises in topographical pictures – works by itinerant western artists in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australasia from the ages of exploration, trade, and empire in the 18th and 19th centuries. She also has a particular fondness for 15th and 16th-century Netherlandish pictures. She is an enthusiastic visitor to country houses, churches, museums and galleries.
