Ceramics & Glass
Roseberys offers British and European ceramics and glassware from the Medieval period through to the present day, as part of the Fine & Decorative sales. The sale encompasses a wide range of periods and styles, from Renaissance maiolica and faience and Dutch and English delftware and slipware to hard-paste and soft-paste porcelain including fine pieces from major manufacturers including Bow, Chelsea, Derby, Worcester and Wedgwood in Britain, as well as Meissen, Sèvres, Vienna and Herend from Europe.
Recent auction highlights for ceramics have included a Sèvres part déjeuner set previously at North Mymms Park (£14,432), a Meissen rectangular snuff box of Halley’s Comet interest (£11,414), a Worcester Barr Flight & Barr triple spill vase (£4,982); a Worcester Barr, Flight and Barr plate from the Stowe Service, c.1813-14, £7,347; and a rare Nantgarw porcelain plate decorated by Thomas Pardoe (£2,150). For glassware, a recent highlight was an East India Company shipping goblet from c.1740 (£5,510), and elsewhere we have achieved excellent prices for modern services from notable names such as Baccarat and St. Louis.
The Fine & Decorative sales have also seen fantastic results for single-owner collections of ceramics and glass: two recent examples include the Robert & Ilse Vater collection of Continental ceramics which achieved over £200,000 in sales, and the personal ceramics collection of the esteemed Hugo Morley-Fletcher of Christie’s and Antiques Roadshow fame.
