Head of Sale & Specialist (Maternity Cover) | Old Master, British & European Pictures

Originally from the Netherlands, Charlotte moved to the UK to study History of Art, first completing her Bachelor’s degree at University College London and later gaining a Master’s degree from the University of Cambridge.

Charlotte’s interest in the auction world was sparked during an internship in the Old Master Paintings department at Sotheby’s, and she decided to pursue a career in the field following her graduate studies, joining, and eventually running, the Sculpture and Works of Art department at Dreweatts. Most recently, Charlotte ran the Pictures department at Bearnes, Hampton & Littlewood auctioneers in Exeter.

Prior to joining the auction world, Charlotte gained cataloguing experience at various museums including the British Museum, London and the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. She has also been involved with various art historical research projects including a volume on Italian art entitled Frame Work: Honour and Ornament in Italian Renaissance Art, which was published by Yale University Press in 2019.

Charlotte is happiest when following provenance trails and making discoveries in libraries and archives, and also enjoys wielding the gavel as an auctioneer.
