Silver - Fine & Decorative, Part 1
Wednesday 27 September 2023 10:00
This month’s Fine & Decorative Silver auction features a wide array of holloware and flatware dating from the 18th to the 21st century and includes a selection of items from the collection of Lord and Lady Weinstock. The sale showcases the evolution of British silversmithing, from quality Georgian pieces by makers such as Daniel Pontifex, Hester Batman and Edward Barnard & Sons, to signature works by the 20th century silversmith, Gerald Benney and contemporary masterpieces by Ndidi Ekubia and Martin Baker. International silverware is also well represented, with highlight lots including an impressive 19th century Russian silver samovar and a pair of American silver candlesticks by Tiffany & Co. Two items of particular significance to Roseberys are a red tape roller and paper knife formerly belonging to the 5th Earl of Rosebery (a former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom) and his wife Hannah (née de Rothschild), Countess of Rosebery.
