Full Lot Description

A group of seven George III silver 'Double-Headed Eagle' picture-back teaspoons, Hanoverian and Old English pattern, the group comprising: a pair by Thomas Wallis, c.1782, engraved 'IS' to front of terminals, 12cm long; an example probably by Thomas Dealtry, London, c.1765, 12.4cm long; two examples by Richard Hawkins, c.1760, one engraved EDS to reverse of terminal, 11.4cm long, the other engraved HM, 10.1cm long; an example probably by Thomas Woodhouse, c.1760, engraved AW to reverse of terminal, 11.1cm long; and an 18th century example with damaged bowl, total weight approx. 2.2oz (7)

Note: These picture-back spoons were probably produced to celebrate the Diplomatic Revolution of 1756, when Prussia reversed its former alliance with France and allied with Britain.

Buyer's Premium
