This sale offers some particularly strong examples of Italian design, including four chairs and a table by Carlo Bugatti consigned from a private collection, furniture and ceramics by Piero Fornasetti and Ettore Sottsass including a particularly rare vase from the latter. One of the most influential figures in studio pottery, Shoji Hamada, is represented with a large jar in persimmon glaze, alongside more contemporary works by Takeshi Yasuda and an unusual pink vessel from Colin Pearson. Art Deco bronzes of female form by Emile Popineau and Paul Philippe, Arts and Crafts copper by W.A.S. Benson, glass by Lalique and Loetz are part of this eclectic sale which also includes travel and advertising posters. Modern highlights include a chest of drawers by George Nelson, lighting by Carl Nason and tapestry carpets by Elizabeth Frink. The sale ends with an impressive contemporary furniture section including several designs by Phillipe Starck.
