The Impressionist and Modern Art covers the movements that define recent Western Art which include the examples of the period in all media - paintings, works on paper, sculpture and ceramics. Artists represented include Henri Martin, Salvador Dali, Leo Gestel and Pablo Picasso. Post-War and Contemporary Art encompasses works by established masters such as Gerard Richter, Andy Warhol and Grace Hartigan as well as mid-career artists such as Ai Wei Wei and Anish Kapoor, and in some cases emerging contemporary artists. The department also has a strong focus on global artists, in particular the emerging South American market and Russian Art.
A departmental highlight includes the sale of a rare work by Leon Bakst depicting the artist and founder of the Ballet Russes Serge Diaghilev bathing at the Lido in Venice, which sold for £540,000.
In 2018, our specialists were delighted to curate and offer The Studio Collection sale of Marie Vorobieff Marevna to the market. Previously single owner collection sales have included the specialist sale of rare books, sculptures and prints by Salvador Dali achieving record breaking results.
