Impressionist, Modern, Post War & Contemporary Art

The Impressionist and Modern Art covers the movements that define recent Western Art which include the examples of the period in all media - paintings, works on paper, sculpture and ceramics. Artists represented include Henri Martin, Salvador Dali, Leo Gestel and Pablo Picasso. Post-War and Contemporary Art encompasses works by established masters such as Gerard Richter, Andy Warhol and Grace Hartigan as well as mid-career artists such as Ai Wei Wei and Anish Kapoor, and in some cases emerging contemporary artists. The department also has a strong focus on global artists, in particular those from South American, Africa and Russia.

A departmental highlight includes the sale of a rare work by Leon Bakst depicting the artist and founder of the Ballet Russes Serge Diaghilev bathing at the Lido in Venice, which sold for £540,000.

In 2018, our specialists were delighted to curate and offer The Studio Collection sale of Marie Vorobieff Marevna to the market. Previously single owner collection sales have included the specialist sale of rare books, sculptures and prints by Salvador Dali achieving record breaking results.

Our specialists have extensive experience advising private collectors, art dealers and corporate and public institutions on both the buying and selling of art. They work to source fascinating pieces for the auctions from across the globe and are committed to the scholarship and research of these pieces.

The department holds two major sales a year; in July and December.

With a wealth of in-house experience our team of specialists are available for complimentary auction valuations and to advise on the current market. Please do not hesitate to contact a member of our specialist team.
