Lot 51
Description
Aaron Dejez,
Polish/American 1900–1951 -
Café interior;
oil on canvas, signed upper left 'A Dejez', 81 x 60.5 cm
Provenance:
with Lucy Wertheim Gallery, London, c.1930s (by repute);
Private Collection
Note:
two works by Dejez were donated to Salford Museum by legendary inter-war art dealer Lucy Wertheim. The current owner purchased the work from one of her estate sales; the raffle ticket numbered '4' was how she would number the items in the collection.
Wertheim's legacy was recently celebrated in the exhibition at Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne, 'A Life in Art: Lucy Wertheim, Patron, Collector, Gallerist', which also included works by Christopher Wood, Frances Hodgkins and Cedric Morris.
