Men on horseback wearing Middle Eastern dress;
oil on canvas, signed 'MORSTADT', dated '1916', and inscribed in Arabic (lower left), 50.2 x 61.2 cm.

Note:
This work is a characteristic example of Morstadt's colourful Orientalist scenes, with the artist returning to the subject matter of elaborately dressed horsemen on a number of occasions, including in an almost identical composition which sold at Claude Aguttes in Paris on 17 October 2010, lot 52 (€4,300 hammer), or in another similar work which sold at Tajan, Paris, on 14 November 2000, lot 187 (£11,817 hammer).

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.
It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
