Follower of Jacopo Negretti, Palma il Giovane,
Italian c.1548-1628-
Study of the head of a bearded man;
pen and brown ink on paper, with trimmed corners, bears inscription 'dal Palma' (lower right), 19.3 x 14 cm. (unframed / mounted).

Note:
The technique of the present work is consistent with Palma Giovane's distinctive approach as a draughtsman, particularly in his clearly defined hatching. This handling is very evident in Palma Giovane's sketch of 'A young woman with a bearded old man', which sold at Christie's, London, on 9 July 2009, lot 523, and also in a sheet of studies which sold at Christie's, London, on 5 December 2013, lot 8.

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.
It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
Buyers intending to export goods should ascertain whether an export licence is required before bidding.
