Description

An Empire ormolu mantel clock depicting the Laws of Minos, early 19th century, the case surmounted with a plumed helmet, books and a tablet inscribed TABLE DES LOIS DE MINOS, with a Classical figure standing to one side reading from a book and a spear leaning on the other, on a plinth base mounted with wreaths and swags and centred with relief plaque with a seated figure watching two soldiers greeting, on lion paw feet, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, signed Thiaffait à Lyon, the twin train movement with outside silk suspensions and outside countwheel striking a bell on the hour and half hour, stamped LF to backplate, with pendulum, 36cm high, 28cm wide, 12cm deep

Case - Surface scratching, tarnishing and rubbing to gilt throughout, particularly to top and to base, with minor knocks to edges. Replacement screws to reverse of figure. Spear is not secured to case, tablet and helmet sit slightly loose on top. 

Dial - Some surface dirt and scratching. Chips to enamel around right winding hole and hairline cracks between 4 and 5. Minor tarnishing to hands.

Movement - Scratching to backplate. Bell is a replacement - marked JOHN HARDING in pen to interior. Currently ticking when wound but Roseberys do not guarantee the working order or time keeping of any timepiece. Winders and pendulum are associated.

Buyer's Premium

The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

(ARR) - ARTIST'S RESALE RIGHT

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.

It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
