Description
A matched pair of Wood & Caldwell pearlware models of lions, c.1800-20, each with impressed uppercase marks to underside, modelled recumbent on a rectangular plinth base edged with double ochre lines, 9cm and 10cm high, the bases 12.5 x 7.3cm (2)
Provenance: Property from a UK Private Collection.
Note: A similar pair is in the collection of the City Museum & Art Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent, no. 287 & 290, illustrated in Pat Halfpenny, English Earthenware Figures 1740-1840, Woodbridge, 1991, p. 166.
Condition Report
The example to the left: crazing present throughout especially to the base, some minor losses of glaze to one eyebrow and one ear and parts of the mane. Old paper label to the underside.
The example to the right: three firing cracks present to the underside of the base, audible detritus inside the figure, evidence of restoration to the front and left side of the base, the front legs, the left ear, and high points of the mane. Minor chips to the edges of the base. Old paper label to the underside.

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.
It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
