Description
Two Staffordshire pearlware figures of Nicodemus and Jeremiah, c.1820, Nicodemus modelled seated, one arm raised, wearing flowing robes, with a shield-shaped plaque impressed CHRIST TEACHETH NICODEMUS JOHN 3 CH.3, on a scroll-moulded grassy mound bocage base, 26cm high; Jeremiah modelled standing before bocage, wearing a puce tunic beside a plinth inscribed SCRIPTURES PRESERVED JEREMIAH/CH 35, on a scroll-moulded base, 27cm high (2)
Provenance: Property from a UK Private Collection.
Note: A similar figure of Jeremiah is in the collection of the City Museum & Art Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent, no. 618. This figure and a similar figure of Nicodemus are illustrated in Pat Halfpenny, English Earthenware Figures 1740-1840, Woodbridge, 1991, p. 216, 254.

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.
It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
Buyers intending to export goods should ascertain whether an export licence is required before bidding. Export licences are issued by Arts Council England and application forms can be obtained from its Export Licensing Unit.
