Description
A Dutch Delftware De Drie Porceleyne Flessies blue and white beaker vase and a large Dutch Delftware De Klaauw blue and white dish, 18th century, the vase c.1720-45, blue WK / 104 / 1 monogram mark, impressed IV mark, of flared ribbed hexagonal section, three facets painted with stylised chinoiserie scenes, three facets with blue and scroll grounds reserved with European landscape panels with figures, 17.3cm high; the dish c.1770-1800, blue claw and 5 mark, painted with ‘the peacock pattern’ of a vase with a fanned bouquet of ferns and flowers, 35.4cm diameter (2)
Provenance: Property from a UK Private Collection.
Note: In 1702 Willem Jacobsz van der Kool inherited the pottery from his father, and he ran it until his death in 1716. Stylistically, the present vase appears to date from the time the pottery was run by his widow, Anna Maria Schrevelius. It was customary for widows to continue using the initials of their late husbands as marks, and it is thought that she would have used the WK monogram during her ownership of the pottery between 1717 and 1745.
