James Penny, Wells. An 18th century gold and shagreen pair case pocket watch
London hallmark for 1763
Gilt full plate verge fusee movement, squared baluster pillars, gilt champlevé dial with black filled Roman numerals and outer Arabic five minute indication, blued steel beetle and poker hands, gold inner case London hallmarks for 1763 and stamped IW for John Wright, outer hinged case with sharkskin and gilt metal pinwork, dial and movement signed
49mm diameter
James Penny is listed both in Bristol, Somerset around 1750 and later in Wells, between 1750-1760

Buyer's Premium

£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%

Export of goods
Buyers intending to export goods should ascertain whether an export licence is required before bidding. Export licences are issued by Arts Council England and application forms can be obtained from its Export Licensing Unit.
