Description

An Edwardian mahogany foldout dressing table with silver mounted contents.

In the manner of George Betjemann and Sons.

The line inlaid mahogany dressing table on square, tapering legs to casters, with several later additions including handles, designed with a foldout mirror to inside of lid and various fitted sections containing silver mounted vanity items, some with maker's mark of George Betjemann and Sons, others with mark of Charles Henry Dumenil (including combs and manicure items), London, c.1911, the interior with two foldout wings to either side and various compartments, ivory roundels and details to interior, dimensions approx. 56.5 x 88.8cm, 94cm high.

The out of the case with two gouges on top. Various knocks and light scratches throughout. The table has been highly polished and the fitted interior is late. Structurally sound. Glass panels to interior in good condition. The three mirrors to interior in good condition, with light scratching and some minor dark spots. The mechanism to open the mirrors is a bit stiff.

The silver mounted glass jars and other glass items in poor overall condition, with various nibbles to bodies and chips to undersides of most pieces. One of the glass scent bottles with a break to its base: the broken piece has been reattached and the crack filled with glue is visible. One of the cylindrical jars with cracks to body. Lids close snugly and marks in good overall condition. 

The other silver and silver mounted vanity items with general surface scratching and nicking. Some dings, light tarnishing and dark spots noted. The engine turned decoration with some wear. Some pieces with rubbed marks. The brushes with some small splits to edges. The silver mounted tortoise comb with some broken and missing teeth. The silver mounted ink blotter with wear and losses. The four silver boxes (two pill boxes and two oval boxes) in good overall condition with light fading and tarnishing to their gilded interiors.

Buyer's Premium

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.

£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500
