oil on canvas, 160 x 156 cm (ARR)

with Ingleby Gallery, Edinburgh (according to a copy of the original invoice);
private collection, UK, purchased from the above

Note:
Innes is one of the most important British painters working today, his cool minimalist style instantly recognisable. This is a brilliant example of his mature work, with its two opposing fields of deep colour and empty space, made by a gradual process of addition and subtraction. The artist has exhibited with Ingleby Gallery since 1999 and in had a major show at the gallery in 2009 when this work was made.

The artist was nominated for the Turner and Jerwood Prizes in 1995, winning the latter in 2002 and his works are in major collections including Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Kunsthaus Zurich and the Scottish National Gallery Of Modern Art. 2024 has already seen exhibitions for the artist in the UK, Italy and the USA, as well as a museum show at Kode–Lysverket Museum in Bergen 'Cadmium Orange, Red Violet, Lamp Black' demonstrating his continued influence on the language of contemporary painting.
