Description

An Ottoman-style painted wooden scribe's pencase, 
Turkey, early 20th century, 

Of oblong form with hinged, domed lid, decorated to exterior with a series of roundels on a dark ground containing a single flower, the central cartouche to lid featuring a basket of flowers, with a series of pink and deep red cartouches contained within gold bands, the interior lid with a gold tughra on a green ground, the base with fitted compartments and tortoiseshell veneer,

38.5 x 11.5cm.

 

 

The colour pigments are strong overall with minimal tarnishing, especially to the reverse of this work. The base is scratched. The ivory front clasp is now lacking. The inside shows some superficial white deposit, possibly suggesting some exposition to damp. This lot would require from light cleaning.

£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
