Lot 61

Description

Five Qur'an folios and a bifolio
Andalusia, 12th Century,

Arabic manuscript on vellum, 5ll. of Andalusian maghribi script , vowels in red, other diacritics in blue, green and saffron, illuminated devices for verse-endings, together with another similar, with gold and polychrome marginal roundel, lobed quarter medallions as verse marker, stained, all mounted

bifolio, 42.5 x 26.5cm. ; folios, 26.5 x 25.5cm. (2), 30.5 x 28.2cm. (2) and 26.7 x 25.4cm mounted

Overall :
Cropped, lightly stained. Pitted. Restored. Some manganese coloured mould developing from lower right corners. Marked and pronounced creases. Some water staining. this lot would benefit from further attention.

Folio starting with وَ مآ :
As above and extensive water staining in marginal areas affecting some letters of the text panel.

Folio starting with جرا ولاشكورا :
As above. Restored and patched corners. Extensively stained and tarnished overall.

The bifolio :
As above. The staining and extensive pitting are affecting the text panel. Absence of manganese coloured mould.

Buyer's Premium

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.

£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500
