A Qajar calligraphic accordian-format album signed by Muhammad Shafi’ (1779-1846) known as Vesal of Shiraz,
Iran, circa 1840,
Comprising 28 calligraphies in the same hand, folio 1 signed and dated 1247 AH/1831AD; and folio 28 signed and dated 1244 AH/ 1829AD, each calligraphy numbered however album is misbound, all with identical seal to reverse, all numbered, long dated inscription on rear fly, mounts include pink-dyed European laid paper, in red leather binding with applied gilt medallions,
folio 20.4 x 12cm.
Provenance: Formerly in the Private Collection of 'Abd al-Wahhab Khan, Nizam al-Mulk (1848-1916) and thence by descent in the early 20th century to a private London collection
Muhammad Shafi' (1779–1846), known as Vesal of Shiraz, is among the most celebrated and prolific calligraphers and poets of the Qajar period. He descended from a line of scribes who served at the local courts of the Safavid, Afshar, and Zand rulers. He was proficient in seven scripts, particularly in naskhi and nasta'liq. He is known to have copied over sixty Qur'ans in his lifetime, as well as manuscripts of other texts, and single and mashq pages. He specialized in revival naskhi in the style of late Safavid calligraphers, particularly Ibrahim Qumi and Ahmad Nairizi, considered the uncontested master of revival naskhi in Iran.

Buyer's Premium
The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.
It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
Buyers intending to export goods should ascertain whether an export licence is required before bidding.
