Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 1920-1945.
Museum of Fine Arts Boston, 1945-1965.
San Diego Museum of Man, 1967-1968.

The djed pillar is associated with Osiris, the hieroglyphic meaning of the symbol is ‘stability’, while Seth, who murdered his brother Osiris, was the god of chaos. The djed pillar came to represent the backbone and ribs of Osiris, or that of the deceased associated with him. Chapter 155 of the ‘Book of the Dead’ required a djed pillar amulet to be made of gold, but many were made of green or blue, colours which symbolise regeneration and new life in ancient Egypt.
