Ethiopian Empire interest. A cigarette case decorated with the cypher of Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia (1930-1975).
Stamped 800.
Italian marks, 20th century.
Of rectangular form, the lid designed with applied gold cypher and foliate scroll decoration to two two corners, in a fitted navy blue leather case with Imperial Cypher to lid, cigarette case 9.6 x 10.3cm, approx. weight 5.6ozt
Provenance: Gifted to the vendor's father by Emperor Selassie on a state visit by His Majesty King Frederik IX and Her Majesty Queen Ingrid of Denmark to Ethiopia in January 1970. The vendor's father was the Master of Ceremonies for the occasion. The case may have been made by Italian silversmith Ervi Aldo Fu Salomone of Florence.

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.
It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
Buyers intending to export goods should ascertain whether an export licence is required before bidding. Export licences are issued by Arts Council England and application forms can be obtained from its Export Licensing Unit.
