Lot 462

Description

Frederick Ilbery Lynch,
British 1886-1951-

The Faun of the Gold Tiberius;

pen and black ink on paper, signed with initials 'I.L' (lower centre), 27.3 x 16 cm.

Note:
The present work is a striking example of Lynch's distinctive, graphic illustrations which gesture towards the influence of figures such as Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898). Lynch appeared to work exclusively for the publisher Grant Richards (1872-1948), producing illustrations for Ernest Bramah’s 'The Transmutation of Ling' (1911), Lord Dunsany’s 'Five Plays' (1914) and Ada Leverson’s 'Bird of Paradise' (1914), among others. He was also the subject of a one-man exhibition in the Fine Art Society in 1913.
