Description
After Robert Lefèvre,
French 1755-1830-
Portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte, shoulder-length, in the uniform of a Chasseur Colonel of the Imperial Guard;
watercolour on ivory, within a gold frame, 4.1 x 3.3 cm. Ivory submission reference: FQC6GVC6.
Note:
The present portrait appears to be inspired by Lefèvre's iconic portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte, a version of which is in the collection at Apsley House. In addition to being well-known through several versions in oil, Lefèvre's portraits of the Emperor were widely circulated through prints and appears to have provided inspiration for many miniaturists working at the time, including Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767-1855) and Jean-Baptiste Augustin (1759-1832).
