Sidmouth;

oil on board, 12.8 x 21.8 cm

Provenance:
with The Fine Art Society (by repute);
private collection

Note:
the present work displays the influence of Whistler on the artist, in its gentle palette and emphasis on atmosphere. Studd was neighbours with Whistler and had travelled and painted with him in France, later donating a number of works by him from his own collection to the Tate and British Museum. He had solo exhibitions at the Groupil Gallery and the Alpine Club Gallery in London. There are a number of works by the artist in important UK collections including the Hunterian Art Gallery, Glasgow, York Art Gallery and the Tate.
