A 19th century French silver entrée dish.

Gustave Keller.

Paris, late 19th century.

Keller, Paris, 950 standard, one with maker's mark GK and French export mark, 950 standard, covers approx. 19.1cm dia., the entrée dish 20cm dia., 28cm wide (inc. handles), approx. 15cm high, total weight approx. 61.2ozt (4)

The arms are those of Demidov, probably for Elim Pavlovich Demidov, 2nd Prince of San Donato (1868-1943), and the Russian Empire's last ambassador to Greece. He had married Countess Sophia Hilarionovna Vorontsova-Dashkova on 18 April 1893.

Gustave Keller attracted numerous international customers and his firm was appointed official supplier of several courts (including Spain, Russia and Greece). The Russian Court was an important client and Tsar Nicholas II purchased many items from the Parisian silversmith in the years following his coronation in 1896. Examples of the firm’s work can be found in notable collections including those of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, and the Musée d'Orsay, France and the Imperial State Hermitage in St Petersburg.
