Lilane Lijn,
American b.1939 -

spray paint on paper, pentaptych, 101 x 55.5 cm (each approx.) (5)

Lijn's work of the 1960s was highly innovative, often described as the first woman artist to create 'kinetic poems', playing with language, light and movement. This was developed in parallel with her first husband, the Greek artist Takis Vassilakis. Her work is in major UK public collections including the Tate, the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts and the Arts Council Collection. Recent exhibitions including her work have been held at England & Co., Rodeo, London, the Neon Foundation, Athens and 'If Not Now When: generations of women sculptors, 1960 – 2022' at The Hepworth Wakefield in 2023, co-curated by Professor Griselda Pollock and featuring the work of Helen Chadwick, Veronica Ryan and Phyllida Barlow.
