Description
François Clément Sommier, called Henry Somm,
French 1844-1907-
An elegant lady walking in Montmartre, with the Moulin Rouge beyond;
pen, black ink, and watercolour on paper, signed 'H. Somm' (lower right), 20.3 x 15.5 cm.
Provenance:
Private Collection, UK.
Note:
The present work is typical of Somm's output, with the artist producing a number of similar works depicting elegantly dressed figures in the streets of Paris, often with the silhouette of the Moulin Rouge in the distance. Somm's interest in the cabarets of Parisian nightlife and his graphic style exhibits a similarity to the work of his friend Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901).
