Lot 344

Description

Charles Johann Palmié,
German 1863-1911-

View of a church spire and a graveyard through trees;

oil on board, signed 'Charles J. Palmié.' (lower right), 29.7 x 39 cm.

Provenance:
Private Collection, UK.

Note:
Palmié was a Neo-Impressionist artist who co-founded the NKVM (Neue Künstlervereinigung München), the pre-cursor the Blaue Reiter movement, with Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944), Alexej von Jawlensky (1864-1941), and Gabriele Münter (1877-1962). Later in his career, Palmié was heavily influenced by the work of Claude Monet (1840-1926), spending the summer of 1906 painting at Giverny.
Although perhaps being better-known for his pointillist paintings, the present work is also typical of much of Palmié's output, depicting a serene and atmospheric landscape in a muted colour palette.
