Description

A massive Chinese blue and white 'rice grain' dinner service

20th century

Part transfer-printed and part hand-painted; comprising: two circular tureens and covers, 26cm diameter each; a teapot and cover, 23.5cm wide; a slightly smaller teapot and cover, unmarked, 23cm wide; two oval serving plates with central dragon design, 36cm and 30.7cm wide; two sugar pots and covers, 18.5cm and 18cm wide across handles; a gravy boat, 19cm wide; a pair of 'ginger' jars and covers, 11cm high; two further sauce boats, 16.3cm and 15.8cm wide; four salts, each about 6cm high; two large serving spoons, 22cm and 21.5cm long; twenty-three table spoons, each approx. 14cm long; and a further table spoon, 14.3cm long; ten handled tea cups, each approx. 11cm wide; a pair of ashtrays, 8.4cm square each; eight small bowls with dragon medallions, each 9.2cm diameter; ten slightly larger bowls of the same design, each approx. 10.6cm diameter; ten slightly larger bowls, two of which with floral rather than dragon medallions, 12.6cm diameter; one further bowl of 16.8cm diameter; three similar bowls of 20.6cm diameter; four rectangular sauce dishes with middle parting, 8.3cm x 8cm each; eleven small circular sauce plates with dragon medallions, 6.7cm diameter; a shaped oval serving dish with dragon medallion, 20cm wide; six cups with floral medallion,  7.5cm diameter, and one cup stand, 11.3cm diameter; eight saucers with central dragons, 10cm diameter each; twelve slightly larger 'dragon' saucers, 14cm diameter; another large oval 'dragon' serving plate, 41.3cm wide; twelve further 'dragon' plates of approx. 19cm diameter each; twelve further plates of the same design, of approx.18cm diameter each; nine further 'dragon' plates of approx. 23cm diameter each; ten deep plates of the same design, approx. 22.7cm diameter; thirteen 'dragon' plates of approx. 25.4cm diameter; and one 'floral' bowl, 10.7cm diameter, and cover, 9.5cm diameter, and two saucers, 15cm diameter (190).

Buyer's Premium

The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.

It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
