A Qajar miniature Qur'an,
Iran, signed Salih Muhammad Hassan al-Isfahani, dated AH 1241?/1825-26AD,
Arabic manuscript on paper, 175ff., with 21ll. of fine black naskh script within gold rule, vocalisation in red, with gold and polychrome verse markers, opening bifolio extensively decorated with gold and polychrome flowers, headers in blue naskh on gold ground with polychrome decoration, marginal decoration in gold and poychrome, in lacquer floral binding, back board loose, export stamps, in gilt-decorated red morocco slip case, owner's inscription dated 1328AH/Pahlavi export stamp dated AH 1315/1936 AD at front
folio 10.6 x 7cm.
Provenance: Formerly in the private collection of 'Abd al-Wahhab Khan, Nizam ul-Mulk (1848-1916) and thence by descent in the early 20th century to a private London collection
Lot Footnotes
The scribe, Muhammad Hassan al-Isfahani, is known to have copied another three manuscripts, all of prayers and dated between AH 1237 and 1242/1821 and 1827 AD (Mehdi Bayani, Ahval va asar-e khosh-nevisan, vol.4, Tehran, 1358 sh., pp.147-48); another qur'an copied by Muhammad Hassan al-Isfahani for Sadr Al-A'zam (Prime Minister) Amin Al-Dawla was sold at Christie's 10 October 2013, Lot 115.

Buyer's Premium
The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.
It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500
