Description

To Be Sold With No Reserve

A silver inlaid engraved copper alloy bowl,

Fars, western Iran, 14th century

Of typical form, the well engraved with swimming fish, the decoration to the body consisting of seated figure within roundels reserved against a dense interlocking and scrolling vines, a band of repeating roundels above and below, register of strapwork above, the base with inscribed roundels, one lobed, possibly an owner's and maker's mark, one reading Hajji Muhmmad 'Abd (al?) Sami('a?), one giving the date of AH1156 and the name of Muhammad

mouth 19.4cm. diam., bowl 26.cm. diam.

Provenance: Property of a Private UK Collection acquired prior to 1979

This copper alloy bowl is superficially dented overall. The silver inlay is entirely lacking. Those dents are only visible under very close inspection and can be felt when one runs his hand on the surface. The surface show very minimal corrosion and some extensive brown staining. some vert de gris starts to develop inside the bowl. The rim is entirely rubbed. The decoration remains crisp overall. The two marks, engraved tot he base are strong. A smaller loose engraving can be noticed.

Buyer's Premium

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.

0 to €50,000 - 4%, €50,000.01 to €200,000 - 3%
€200,000.01 to €350,000 - 1%,
€350,000.01 to €500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding €500,000 - 0.25%
