Description

Property from an Important Private Collection

Two lacquered papier-mache bindings,

Qajar Iran, 19th century,

The first with gold-speckled lobed medallions filled in with intersecting wavy bands , its borders with similar decoration, against a gold speckled black ground, with 2fl.annoted in pencil with reference numbers and dimensions ; the second, its covers dissociated, a lobed medallion with dense floral decoration, a rising and hanging quatrefoil above and below, amidst swaying floral tendrils, against black ground, the reverse, plain red with thin black borders within thin gold and black rules, inventory label to upper cover interior's lower right hand side, the split spine, modern

the covers : 21.5 x 14.5cm. and 12.4 x 6.6cm.

This lot presents as relatively clean overall. Under U. V both binding render a very dull light almond/pistacchio green.

The larger :

The edges are strong. The corners are scuffed with lacquer lacking. The upper and lower cover show some scratches, blemishes and scattered losses. The losses are mainly to the right marginal area of the upper cover and occasional and to the field of the lower cover. The inner shows craquelures overall. Two fly leaves attached, the upper anotated in pencil with dimensions and inventory number.

 

The smaller :

Both cover are in good condition. The soft leather or leather-like spine is a modern addition.

Buyer's Premium

The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

(ARR) - ARTIST'S RESALE RIGHT

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.

It applies to lots with hammer value over €1,000 as follows:
0 to €50,000 - 4%, €50,000.01 to €200,000 - 3%
€200,000.01 to €350,000 - 1%,
€350,000.01 to €500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding €500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at €12,500

Export of goods
