Lot 251

Description

A bronze lampstand base, a bronze inkwell and a silver-inlaid oil lamp, 

Khorasan, North East Iran, 12th-13th century

The lampstand of typical form ; the oil lamp, on tall conical foot inlaid with foliate motifs within rectangular tapering panels, a band of spare heads above and of scroll works below, some inlay remaining, the half globular body with three spouts and central shaft, the inkwell of squat and truncated ogival form, the lightly gadrooned body with four wider calligraphic bands, similar calligraphy to the shoulder,

the lampstand base 18.8cm. across, the inkwell 9cm., the oil lamp 11.5cm. high (3)

The Estate of Michael J Rogers (1935-2022)

John Michael Rogers, FBA, FSA (1935 – 25 December 2022) was a British art historian who was an expert in Islamic art history. He was Khalili Professor Emeritus of Islamic Art at SOAS, University of London from 1991 and a published author. In his later years, he was Honorary Curator of the Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art.

Buyer's Premium

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.

It applies to lots with hammer value over €1,000 as follows:
0 to €50,000 - 4%, €50,000.01 to €200,000 - 3%
€200,000.01 to €350,000 - 1%,
€350,000.01 to €500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding €500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at €12,500

Export of goods
