Lot 234

Description

Four Paris (Samson) porcelain teacups and saucers, 19th century, decorated in 18th century Meissen style with floral sprays and brown rims, blue underglaze imitation crossed swords marks to the undersides, the teacups - 8.3cm diameter, the saucers - 13cm diameter (8)

Note: The factory of Edmé Samson (1810-91) was established in Paris in 1845 with the expressed intention of making high-quality reproductions of ceramics on display in museums and in private collections, and as such are renowned as the most famous copyists of porcelain and pottery.  In the present lot, the teacups and saucers are decorated in a style that imitates 18th century Meissen porcelain, and each piece bears a mark that is similar to but, also distinct from, the Meissen crossed swords, so as not to deceive and cause confusion.
