Lot 19

Description

Pietro Novelli, called Il Monrealese,
Italian 1603-1647-

Sketch of Christ, full-length, barefoot and dressed in long robes;

pen and black ink on laid paper, with a sketch of 'The Holy Trinity In Glory’ verso, 17.5 x 19.3 cm.

Provenance:
Private Collection, UK.

Note:
The subject of the present work, recto, is presumably an image of Christ in profile - a deviation from the image verso, and also as
 suggested by the lines around the top of the figure's head, suggesting a halo. The sketch verso relates to Novelli's large-scale oil 'The Holy Trinity', held at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest [no.714]. We are grateful to Dr Nicola Spinosa for confirming the attribution of the present lot.

Buyer's Premium

The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

VAT
VAT is not charged on the hammer price unless it is stated that there is 'VAT applicable on the hammer price at the end of the description. Buyer's premium is subject to VAT.
