Lot 337
Description
Sir William Russell Flint, RA PRWS,
Scottish 1880-1969-
Anthea;
red chalk on paper, signed with initials 'WRF' (lower left), indistinctly inscribed 'Onlooker - Anthea + ...' (lower centre beneath the mount), 22 x 14.2 cm. ARR.
Provenance:
Private Collection.
Note:
The present work is characteristic of Flint's approach, depicting a female model partly clad in the voluminous skirt and bangles of a Flamenco dancer, with a nude chest and torso. Indeed, Flint's oeuvre demonstrates a fascination with the beauty of the female nude, a preoccupation which is clearly evident in the present work, with the clean lines used to depict the sitter's body effectively contrasting with the loose frills of her skirt.
