Description

Frances Livesay,
British act.1880-1914-

Bellagio, Lake Como;

pencil and watercolour on paper, bears two labels, one inscribed 'Miss F. Livesay', the other inscribed 'Bellaggio [sic], Lake Como, 1897' attached to the backing board, 17.8 x 33.7 cm.

Provenance:
Private Collection, UK.

Note:
Frances Livesay was the granddaughter of Richard Livesay (1750-1826), a prominent painter and engraver. Frances travelled extensively in France and Italy, producing watercolours of the striking and picturesque landscapes she encountered along the way. The present work depicts the particularly scenic village of Bellagio, located on a promontory on Lake Como, with the still, flat waters of the lake in the foreground, and the impressive mountains towering behind.
