Lot 277

Description

Samuel Lawson Booth, RCA,
British 1836-1928-

A sunset landscape at sunset with figures;

oil on canvas, signed and dated 'S.L. Booth R.C.A./ 1902' (lower right), 60.7 x 91.5 cm.

Provenance:
Private Collection, UK.

Note:
Booth is perhaps best-known for his sweeping landscapes of Egypt and Israel, where he travelled in 1902, under the sponsorship of King Edward VII (1841-1910). The present work, dated '1902', presumably originates from this trip, depicting figures in long garments at the shore of a large lake which reflects and amplifies the colourful sky above. A view of Jerusalem by Booth, taken four years after the present work, sold recently at Bonhams, London, 8 June 2023, lot 108 for £3,200.
