Footnote
Kathryn studied at the Royal College of Arts in London where she was introduced to computer aided design (CAD). The Scottish-based silversmith's work combines the use of CAD software with traditional handmaking to create tactile silverware that explores emerging surfaces and geometric forms. Her work is held in the Goldsmiths' Company collection, the Crafts Council UK, The Pearson Silver Collection and several other private collections. In 2012 she won gold at the Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Craftsmanship & Design Awards.

Kathryn has provided the following comment on this lot: "The original title is the 'Exhausted Cake Slice'; it was designed and made while I was at the Royal College of Art doing an MA on the Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metalwork and Jewellery course, graduating in 2008. It is made out of sheet sterling silver with a wood turned sycamore cake stand which has been coloured with a wood stain. I have made about 4 of these since graduating. It was made alongside a series of other pieces of cutlery that explored our connection with tableware and its use. The exhausted cake slice was a playful but functional take on this idea."
