Marcus & Co, C.H. Meylan. An American, Belle Époque, platinum and diamond lapel watch
Circa 1910
18 jewel Swiss lever movement with three adjustments, signed Marcus & Co, New York, C.H.Maylan, Switzerland, numbered 21628, circular silvered dial with blued steel Louis VI hands and black Arabic numerals, signed Marcus & Co, within old-brilliant-cut diamond bezel with cardinal points, the square case with rose-cut diamond set pierced foliate decoration with rose-cut diamond line border, the matching case back with central old-brilliant-cut diamond rosette motif, to a rose-cut diamond crown, case number 2161964, suspended from a diamond set brooch with diamond twin swags
Case width 25mm, length including brooch suspension 5.5cm

An illustrated design for this watch can be found in the Jewelry Design Books of Jaques and Marcus, 1890 to 1910, in the 'Miscellaneous' volume, page 25. The eight volume design books contain pen and ink drawings of custom-designs drawn for clients of the firm, which were then later pasted in to the volumes. The design books were given to the Dartmouth Library in 1987 by Burton Elliott, a Dartmouth alumnus who, along with his father Edward Goldstein, worked for Marcus & Co.

Buyer's Premium

The buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 26% up to £20,000 (31.2% inclusive of VAT), 25% from £20,001 - £500,000 (30% inclusive of VAT), 20% from £500,001 thereafter (24% inclusive of VAT). The premium price is subject to VAT at the standard rate.

Qualifying living artists and the descendants of artists deceased within the last 70 years are entitled to receive a re-sale royalty each time their work is bought through an auction house or art market professional.

It applies to lots with hammer value over £1,000 as follows:
0 to £50,000 - 4%
£50,000.01 to £200,000 - 3%
£200,000.01 to £350,000 - 1%
£350,000.01 to £500,000 - 0.5%
Exceeding £500,000 - 0.25%
ARR is capped at £12,500

Export of goods
