Lot Footnotes
The argha patra is widely used in India and is intended for ritual purpose. The form evolves from traditional representations of the yoni, a cosmic symbol representing the female. The vessel is filled with water and held in the hand during puja, the indent in the base used to place a finger for balance. The water is then poured onto the sculpture of a deity to bathe the god or goddess as an act of worship.
