西藏十八世紀 銅鎏金四臂文殊菩薩像

Cf. Mañjuśrī is one of the Eight Great Bodhisattvas, or 'Eight Close Sons' of Buddha Śākyamuni, whose name and variations of names were enumerated in the Charya Tantra, Nāmasaṃgīti ('The Chanting of Names'). The current form, with one face four arms, was included in the tantra mentioned above, with variations of attributions held in his hands, and somehow rare as most examples of Mañjuśrī in this on form hold a bow and sword in the upper hands. For a similar form from the Ming dynasty please refer to item no. 57406 on himalayanart.org.
