Description
Daniel Sherrin,
British 1868-1940-
A sunset landscape, with a figure and flock of sheep by a stream;
oil on canvas, signed 'L RICHARDS' (lower right), 40.8 x 61.2 cm.
Provenance:
Private Collection, UK.
Note:
Sherrin often signed his work pseudonymously as 'L. Richards'. He is best known for his depictions of landscapes, maritime scenes, and the East Anglican countryside. He was successful amongst his contemporaries, and notably enjoyed the patronage of King George V (1865-1936) in a commission to depict the royal estate at Sandringham. The influence of Benjamin Williams Leader (1831-1923) on his style is evident in the present work, with its evocative depiction of golden skies lighting the serene and tranquil landscape below.
