Lot 6

Description

Max Papart,
French 1911-1994-

'L'Aube, No. 16', 1958;

oil on canvas, signed 'Max Papart' and dated '58' lower left; titled 'No. 16 L'Aube', signed 'Max Papart' and inscribed 'MCMLVI' on the reverse, 55 x 65cm (ARR)

Provenance:

Arthur Tooth & Sons, Ltd., London

Note: Max Papart was a 20th-century French printmaker and painter. His strong interest in Cubism, and the influence of contemporaries such as Henri Goetz, is evident in the present work, in which bold lines and geometric forms are used to depict objects within a flattened spatial plane.

Paparts works are held in the collections of the Musée dArt Moderne de la Ville in Paris, the V&A and the National Gallery in London, and many more.
