British 1825-1896-
A Summer's Afternoon;
watercolour and bodycolour on paper, signed 'E. Killingworth Johnson / 1876.' (lower right), 50 x 71.5 cm.

A wood engraver, illustrator, watercolourist and painter in oils, he predominantly depicted rural genre scenes such as the present work. The same year this watercolour was produced, Johnson sold one of his works 'The Anxious Mother' to Myles Birket-Foster (1825-1899). His uncles were the marine artist James Meadows, and the illustrator John Masey Wright.
