Lot 235

Description

Seamus Staunton,

British b.1952-

Buoy III, 2006;

mixed media, birch ply, rivets and flock, 30x23x20cm (ARR)

Provenance: Acquired from the artist by the present owner.

Note: Seamus Staunton is a contemporary British sculptor.

His works are highly abstract, using the construction of shapes to explore ideas of fluidity and form, and playing with the innate qualities of different materials. Many of Stauntons works have an organic quality, which in the present piece is imparted by the artists use of wood to produce a form constructed with smooth and sinuous lines, gesturing towards the approach of seminal 20th century British sculptors such as Barbara Hepworth.

Stauntons works are in a number of public collections, including, the Arnolfini Gallery in Bristol, and Tallinn Zoo in Estonia, amongst others.
