Description
A Thai gilt bronze figure of Phra Malai, early 19th century, modelled visiting hell, standing on a lotus base wearing samghati with an alms bowl suspended from his right shoulder, the base is cast with various emaciated figures and animals all around a central dish of severed heads, a skeleton lies before the base, 38cm high
Note: The scene depicted here is of the Thai legend of the Buddhist monk Phra Malai. He accumulated so much merit that he developed supernatural powers.
