One Eye Monkey in Green, 2006;

oil on canvas, inscribed verso, 30.5x25.5cm (ARR)

Exhibited: FRED London, 'Monkey Paintings', 2006

Provenance: given by the artist to the present owner

Note: The present work is part of a series created by Peter Jones using antique toy monkeys which he has carefully collected for many years as models. Inspired by Henry Tonks' pastels of wounded World War I soldiers, Jones treats these 'portraits' with great sensitivity and emotional depth, allowing the viewer to read into each work the history of the toy and the person who made or owned it.
