Hal Woolf NS,

British 1902-1962-

Pimlico;

watercolour and pencil, signed and dated '36, 26.3x36.3cm (ARR)

Exhibited: The Woodstock Gallery, London, loaned by Finbar Gibbings Esq., according to the former frame label attached to the reverse of the mount

Note: Woolf extensively exhibited at the Redfern Gallery, as well as the RA, ROI and LG. During World War II where he served as a captain in the Royal Engineers, he was known to have begun using marijuana. Woolf's death in 1962 is surrounded in mystery after going missing, being knocked down by a car, being taken into police custody for possession of a 'dangerous drug', and returning to hospital in a comatosed state. A secret inquiry was held in the House of Commons, leading to no disciplinary action taken.
